Travel RN – Juvenile Corrections | Sylmar, CA

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) for a 16-week travel assignment at Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar, CA. This role involves providing essential psychiatric and medical care to juvenile inmate patients within a secure, locked forensic environment.


Job Details

  • Position: Travel RN – Juvenile Corrections
  • Location: Sylmar, CA
  • Shift: 5x8 Days (40 hours/week)
  • Duration: 16-week assignment
  • Weekly Pay: $1,832.81 – $2,156.25 / week (Pre-tax)
  • Expected Start Date: July 6, 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide healthcare assessments, medical examinations, and follow-up care for juvenile youth.
  • Manage and stabilize patients struggling with mood, anxiety, behavioral conditions, and psychiatric needs.
  • Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and immunizations.
  • Respond to health-related emergencies and collaborate with multi-disciplinary healthcare teams (Doctors, Dentists, Mental Health partners).

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Psychiatric (PSYCH) experience AND 1 year of Correctional RN experience (Pediatric Psych background is a strong plus).
  • Certifications: Active California RN License, AHA BLS, MAB or CPI, and an LA City Fire and Life Safety card.
  • Availability: Complete commitment to the full 16-week contract (no Requested Time Off allowed during the first contract). Strict adherence to 3 shifts per week minimum is required.
