Payment Posting Specialist (Finance & Accounting - Billing)

Location: Burien, WA (Hybrid: 2–3 days/week in office; 2–3 weeks full-time in office for training)

Position Type: Temp-to-Hire | Full-Time

Shift / Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (or 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, flexible for traffic)

Pay Range: $22.95 – $27.00 / hour


Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payment Posting Specialist to join a supportive, collaborative finance team in Burien, WA. In this role, you will accurately record and reconcile financial transactions within a healthcare billing setting, processing electronic and manual payments, applying adjustments, and balancing daily batch totals to keep accounts receivable accurate and up to date.


Key Responsibilities

  • Payment Processing: Accurately post payments from insurance carriers (ERAs/EOBs), electronic funds transfers (EFTs), and patient payments using both automated and manual posting methods.
  • Reconciliation & Balancing: Balance daily batches to match actual deposits, resolving any variances prior to month-end close.
  • Contractual Adjustments: Apply correct contractual adjustments, co-pays, and deductibles as dictated by payer contracts.
  • Credit Balances & Refunds: Identify overpayments, manage credit balance workflows, and assist in issuing refunds to patients or payers.
  • Reporting & Compliance: Review daily and weekly transaction volume and unapplied cash reports while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines and CMS regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in medical billing, accounting, or revenue cycle management.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, medical posting software (such as Timewise), and MS Excel.
  • Knowledge Base: Strong understanding of medical coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) and deep familiarity with interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Healthcare Administration preferred.
  • Health Screening: MMR vaccination required.
