Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Juvenile Corrections | Downey, CA

Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Downey, CA

Facility: LA County DHS – Juvenile Court Health Services (Los Padrinos)

Setting: Juvenile Corrections / Inpatient

Shift: Evenings (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) | Must commit to 3 shifts per week (No block scheduling)

Assignment Duration: 16 Weeks (Expected Start Date: 08/17/2026 – End Date: 12/05/2026)

Pay Range: $1850-1880 per week


Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our healthcare team supporting LA County Department of Health Services (Juvenile Court Health Services - Los Padrinos) in Downey, CA. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive nursing care, physical assessments, and triage for youth in an inpatient correctional facility during the evening shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM).


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide primary, preventive, and emergency nursing care to juvenile residents during evening hours.
  • Administer scheduled evening medications, perform clinical assessments, and manage treatment plans accurately.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, mental health professionals, and facility security staff.
  • Maintain complete and timely clinical documentation in accordance with LA County DHS standards.
  • Demonstrate exceptional reliability and consistent attendance across all assigned evening shifts.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as a Correctional Registered Nurse (inpatient setting required).
  • Preferred Experience: 2 years of Behavioral Health / Psych experience (Pediatric Psych experience is highly preferred).
  • Licensure: Active California (CA) RN license in good standing.
  • Certifications: Active AHA BLS, ACLS, MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior), and LA Fire Safety certification.
  • Shift Commitment: Ability to work evening shifts from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, committing to 3 shifts per week. (Attendance is monitored monthly and factors directly into contract extension decisions).
  • Time-Off Policy: Requested Time Off (RTO) is not permitted during the initial contract term, but may be considered for a second contract extension prior to restarting.
